With the new year it seems that everyone wants to prognosticate on the outlook for the economy, and so I thought I would add my two cents, specifically as it relates to the construction industry, and even more specifically, the commercial construction industry in Colorado.
Starting with the big picture, my friends at SDR Ventures sent me the results of their survey this week where they simply asked “Are You Hiring in 2011”. A whopping 75.9% (ourselves included) said yes. Click here for the whole article.
Narrowing down to the construction industry, the Association of General Contractors (AGC) released their findings on December’s Producers Price Index this week and found that prices for “nearly every material used by contractors” rose in December. Click here for the whole article.
Lastly, I will finish with a very scientific survey with a focus group of one and tell you what we are seeing right now, which mirrors both of the above surveys, which is that we are seeing a pick up both in volume of projects and a stabilization, and even increase in construction pricing.
I will have more thoughts on both of these last items in the next blog/post. Stay tuned!
